The painful and unfortunate experience the people of Ukraine are passing through right now is a vital lesson for countries that allow xenophobic and violent ideologies to flourish even with an irrelevant microscopic minority within them.
The enemies of such countries that ignore violent trends within them can easily use the trends as a pretext to harm them.
A country may not be completely safe when it is completely nonviolent. But at least it does not give its enemies an opportunity to play foul with it.
And if a very good, nonviolent, and peaceful country is attacked for no reason at all, the world is more likely to be severely agitated and to intervene.
