DIFFERING VIEWS ON MORALITY

For Socrates morality is borne out of knowledge; knowledge of what is right.

For Plato morality dawns with reason; and has to do with what is best and most durable and valuable.

For Aristotle morality is in an analysis of means and ends that lead to happiness.

For Epicurus the good life is about escaping pain and so is life's morality.

For Epictetus morality does not matter. What must happen will happen. But we must always take care, and seek to do right.

For Christ morality is in doing God’s (the Father’s) will.

For Kant morality is about fulfilling duties and obligations with good intent just like we seek goodness for ourselves.

For Nietzsche morality is inspired by the instinct and desire for self-preservation.

For Mill morality is about benefiting the majority.
